Pheasants shine in All-Star Game; Torbert wins Home Run Derby
WICHITA, Kan. – The Sioux Falls Pheasants All-Stars represented the North Division well in the 2010 American Association All-Star festivities. Beau Torbert won the Home Run Derby while several Pheasants contributed offensively in the All-Star Game despite a 12-3 loss on Tuesday night to the South Division.

Reggie Abercrombie hit a solo home run and a double. He finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Joe Anthonsen and Trevor Lawhorn also collected hits while Brandon Sing scored a run.

Torbert took the Home Run Derby earlier in the day by beating out teammates Sing and Abercrombie to advance to the finals, where he topped Shreveport-Bossier’s Chris Garcia in a “Blast Off.” The Pheasants’ “Big Three” – Abercrombie, Sing and Torbert – were the only  North Division representatives in the contest.

Pitchers Chris Salberg and Ryan Shaver each made appearances in the game.

The South Division took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run home run from Garcia. They never lost the lead, adding a run in the third and two more in the fourth.

David Espinosa of Grand Prairie and Garcia combined to go 7-for-11 at the plate with four runs scored and five driven in. John Allen of Fort Worth chipped in with a sixth inning grand slam that highlighted a seven-run inning for the South Division. Shreveport-Bossier’s Ryan DiPietro collected the win for the South Division, tossing a perfect third inning. For the North Division, Jason Cooper of St. Paul went 3-for-4 with a home run.

The Pheasants return to action against the St. Paul Saints at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2010, in St. Paul. The game will be broadcast live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
